Privacy policy
Your campus memories are yours.
Explore U is designed so that personal progress and memories stay private on your device.
Effective August 8, 2026
The Explore U iPhone app
The app does not require an account. Completed experiences, completion dates, class locations, and memory photos are stored locally on your iPhone. Explore U does not upload that personal information to our servers.
If you choose the nearby feature, the app requests location access while you use it so it can calculate which campus places are near you. Your precise location is not stored by Explore U or sent to our servers.
If you choose to suggest a correction or photo, Explore U prepares an email or share sheet for you. Nothing is sent automatically. Information you choose to send is handled by the service you select and may be reviewed by the Explore U content team.
Invited campus administrators may optionally sign in from the app. A temporary administrator session is stored in the iPhone Keychain, expires automatically, and can be revoked centrally or ended with Sign out. Ordinary app use does not create this session.
The content-verification website
The optional contributor website uses sign-in to limit access and attribute campus-content submissions. When an invited contributor submits evidence, we store their account name and email, submission notes, review status, and any coordinates or photos they intentionally provide. Administrators use this information to evaluate proposed campus-content updates.
For invited administrators who use the native app, we retain the account identity, session timing, and a one-way hash of the session credential so the server can enforce current role and campus assignments. Raw session credentials are not stored in the database.
Private app progress, class locations, check-ins, and personal memory photos are never displayed in the contributor website.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising. Contributor evidence is available only to authorized contributors and administrators and is retained as needed to review and document campus-content decisions.
Your choices
You may decline location or photo access in iPhone Settings and continue using the app. To ask about, correct, or delete information you intentionally submitted through the contributor website, email Explore U privacy support.
Changes
We may update this policy as Explore U grows. The effective date above will change when the policy is revised.
